How Much Do I Need?

All our fertilisers are designed to be applied at 25g per m² — the perfect rate for professional results without the risk of overfeeding.

You might be used to heavier application rates with DIY products, but our formulas are concentrated, so a little really does go a long way.

To work out how much you need:

Measure your lawn using our handy Lawn Size Calculator.
Multiply your lawn’s size (in m²) by 25g
Choose the pack size that covers your area — if you’re between sizes, round up to ensure full coverage.

Bag coverage guide:

50m² bag = 1.25kg
100m² bag = 2.5kg
200m² bag = 4.7kg

Stick to 25g per m² and you’ll see fast, safe, and visible improvement.

How to Apply?

Follow these simple steps for best results:

Step 1: Mow your lawn (if needed)
For best results, mow your lawn 2-3 days before applying fertiliser. This clears away excess grass, helping the nutrients reach the soil where they're needed most. Avoid mowing immediately before application, especially in very dry conditions, as freshly cut grass can be more prone to stress.

Step 2: Measure the correct amount
Use our Lawn Size Calculator to work out your lawn area. Then weigh out 25g per m² (kitchen scales are useful for this). It might not look like much, but it's the perfect amount for our high-performance fertiliser. Please don’t be tempted to add more — applying too much can over-feed your lawn, leading to potential damage or scorching.

Step 3: Spread evenly
Apply the fertiliser evenly across your lawn using a handheld or push spreader. Walk at a steady pace in straight lines to ensure consistent coverage. Need a spreader? Shop our handheld spreaders.

Step 4: Watering
Water the lawn immediately after application to activate the fertiliser and avoid potential staining from iron on hard surfaces.

Step 5: Wait before mowing again
Hold off mowing for at least 3 days after application and watering to allow the fertiliser time to fully absorb into the soil. This gives the nutrients the best chance to take effect.

Step 6: Children & pets
Once watered in and the lawn is fully dry, it’s safe for children and pets to walk on. However, grazing pets should be kept off the lawn for 4 weeks. Please Note: This product contains iron, which can stain hard surfaces, so we recommend minimising foot traffic for 24–48 hours. Check shoes before crossing patios or indoor floors, and brush or rinse away any granules from paving. See our Child & Pet Safety Guide for full advice.

What's inside this fertiliser, and how it helps:

Nitrogen (N) – 5%: Supports steady winter growth without creating soft, weak leaf tissue. Uses stable-release nitrogen that avoids growth surges, making it ideal for cold weather conditions and early spring recovery.

Potassium (K) – 10%: Builds winter resilience and strengthens the grass against cold stress.

Iron (Fe) – 5%: Enhances lawn colour and is particularly helpful for lawns prone to moss, supporting a more even and improved appearance.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed with the results so far, and I completely understand how frustrating it is to see moss appearing when you were hoping to reduce it.

It’s worth explaining that moss thrives in damp, shaded conditions and can already be well established below the surface before it becomes visible. While our Winter Shield Pro does contain iron to help suppress moss and improve grass health, it isn’t a harsh “kill-everything” moss killer. Instead, it works by strengthening the grass so it can out-compete moss over time. In some lawns, especially those with heavy shade or persistent moisture, moss can still appear initially.

If moss pressure is high, applying the fertiliser at a higher rate increases the iron input, which will be more effective at blackening and suppressing the moss while continuing to feed the grass. I’d suggest doing this once the risk of hard frost has passed, as conditions will be better for both the lawn and the treatment.
